If you wish upon a Star"This is not what I wished for, did you" Disney songs been made into EDM tracks WTF!!!!

Source  https://pulseradio.net/articles/2014/03/kaskade-armin-van-burren-avicii-more-to-remix-disney-songs
Disney is getting songs remixed as EDM tracks by Kaskade, Armin van Buuren, and Kaskad (thats the short list) "Facepalm"

I'm actually rather pissed off about this. First EDM destroys old 90's House classics like Night Crawlers:Push the Feeling. Now they going to destroy childhood memories as well :(

For example

If I was vindictive Id wish a upon a star for those of you who buy this to  have nigthmares where Jiminey Cricket and Pinocheo torture you while singing "When you wish upon a star" and afterwards snow white and the 7 dwarves come and carry them away while singin"hi ho hi ho its off to work we go", tie them up and drop them into the sea while everyone sings "Under the sea" and if any of them survive Lady and the tramp eat them alive as they arrive on the shore.

I know some of you are in shock, no Pitbull did not make that original sound. This is how the song is supposed to sound.

This is how a remix should sound when it's honoring the original

VIP Room on Thursday 21 November 2013 (Don’t Funk with my Heart)

So on Thursday night I headed off to a club which is very familiar to me.  I didn’t want to go on my own, but my friends weren’t happy to go out in the rainy weather and I was craving House music and I was promised that there would be quality music on this night. With House Hold Funk playing I was sure there would be.

So I called a cab and headed off for a night of fun at VIP Room. I was greeted at the door by the friendly bouncers (whom I know by name and even know a bit about them as people, due to my clubbing habits :P) Next I was greeted by a group of gorgeous women (half of which I also know due to my clubbing habits)  I had a short chat with some of them, then I proceeded downstairs. I was greeted on the way down by what I describe as VIP’s Living art, Gorgeous women who sit perfectly still in what can only be described as a marble frame.

As I was walking down the stairs I was starting to hear some good house beats, and as I got downstairs my ears were welcomed by warm Deep House beats and I was really surprised to see that the club was packed, but not packed like it normally is, this was what one could call (special event packed) and the only special thing was the fact that they had good House music as opposed to Commercial and hip hop.  I was expecting to see the place half full instead it was packed to the rafters, it was a pleasant surprise.

Now for those of you who are not familiar with the usual VIP Room Crowed. Here is a brief description followed by a description of Thursday nights crowed. Usually the VIP Room Crowed is the Sophisticated Jhb Crowed. The women are the cream of the crop as far as looks go and many of them aren’t as pretentious as one would think they are.(Guys you need to talk to them before making judgments
, some of them are awesome people) The Men are either the Sophisticated business men or the laid back businessman or celebrities, either way usually most of us are businessmen, who just want to go out, have some fun, meet women and maybe even do some business networking. ITS IMPORTANT TO NOTE, the VIP Room crowed is usually there just to have a good time, they usually at a level above most other High end clubs in terms of their wealth/influence, yet they are more friendly and just up for a good time as opposed to being seen.

Now for the DESCRIPTION OF THURSDAY’s CROWED. It was a mix of the usual crowed and a younger crowed as well, but not too young, early to mid 20’s, but you could tell they all came from well off families or they were the usual VIP Room (self made type) with a few celebrities here and there. One could tell a large number of the people were University students as well this time round.(Guys I have to emphasise this) THE WOMEN WERE GORGEOUSE, it was like being a kid in a candy store.

A REVIEW OF THE MUSIC. So as I mentioned I was greeted by Warm Deep House beats. I’ve known Les and Abi from House Hold funk for probably 7 to 8 years, although I haven’t seen them play in about 3 years. I was happy to hear they have just continued to get better over the years. It was an awesome set. They played a mix of Deep, Funky and Tech House, with their own spin to it. A House Hold Funk Set is typically a upbeat seat. The Crowed responded really well to the music and  the club continued to fill up during their set.  Next up was VIP Room’s resident DJ Sebastian. Sebastian started to play a set of commercial music and some hip hop, this lasted for about an hour, I won’t go into this as it’s not music I understand unless I’m drunk, with the exception of some Hip Hop.  I have to comment though on Sebastian’s Closing set. It was brilliant, I’d put it up there with Great House I’ve heard in the last 6 months. It started off with some Deep House, progressed to some Deep House with tracks such as Ordinary Things:Seven Hills,Dungeon Meat:The Fuck Track, Ten Walls:Requim (get it this track rocks) www.beatport.com  , then at the very end Sebastian progressed to a very sick Detroit Techno set.  Surprisingly the crowed that was left over at the end of the night responded very well to all of the above.

As for the PAROOZ and BLACK ROSE fashion show. I’m a guy so all I can say is the models were hot, ask a women about what they thought about the cloths :P I can also say the women looked hot in the cloths, but that’s about as detailed as it gets :P

I left at about 4:30am when the last beat dropped and long after the women(plural) I was with had left and other friends I found during the course of the night. Mr M and Mr D good to see you again. Party again Soon, and Miss L, Miss D, Miss S and Miss M gorgeous as always :P (You all know who you are)

All in all it was an amazing night. Well done again on an awesome event VIP Room. I trust there will be more house music played there in the future! J

Enjoy this and go buy it ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhTJHCpRmek )

Well Done Melissa and the VIP Room Team.

EDM is NOT House Music

“EDM is a bastardized Top 40 version of house” DJ Zimmie( Come on be a Rebel and listen to real house music-Don’t be like your friends they don’t understand music)

Ok I’ve said I’ll start a music blog for a long time and at the same time I’ve also kept saying I will write this article, so here it is.

I feel someone needs to point out to some people especially the newer Generation what House music is, because if one more person tells me that Steve Aoki,Avcii, Hardwell or Pitbull is House I’m going to either drink myself to death or Go all Dexter and Hanibal on you lot.

The younger generation takes dance music for granted, when I was a kid round about 10 years of age. I would sit and listen to the radio on weekends to catch short shows where they would play house music. I craved this music so much, it’s what I looked forward to most on weekends.

So let me start with a short history because I know the younger generation likes things to be short. I sympathise with you as I’m adhd.

I won’t give you a write up on the birth of House music, because you can read that elsewhere. I’ll give the short version. House music was born in the late 70’s/ early 80’s  It was created by names such As Franki Knuckles,Todd Terry, Lary Leven and Ron Hardy. They created this sound by combining old Disco records and Euro Pop from the Era, which when combined created a brand new sound. House was different from Disco, it has a raw sound to it and deeper bass lines. Here are some examples this era http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWmteg9guoo      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNesbHxl0qQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzqhRicKCLM  This song was one of the first House tracks ever made.”You know those song in House music that speak about Jack, well Jack made that track ;) “

So as time went on and it was now the mid 80’s Dj’s such as Dj Pierre , Ron Hardy, Spanky and Herbert J  would combine the records of the time with the sounds from a Roland 303 to produce what was called Acid house. Here is a clip showing what a Roland 303 is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P68ZI3n62KA   Here's an acid house track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKbLI8EufNo  Here’s an old acid house mix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4va9DduFwIQ

After all of the above the 90’s came and House music was getting a commercial reputation as well. and the scene was gaining momentum world wide. Some of the names include, Armand Van Helden, Cajmere, Snap,Black Box Adamski, Basement Jax, Robin S, Dee Lite and many many more.(for the younger people who listen to Pit Bull. His song Hotel Room was sampled from this song one of the biggest House Classics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSzpOUwiLkc  Those of us who know our music want to throw up when we hear the garbage some of the best house songs are remixed into.  I wanted to cry when I heard Hotel Room for the first time, as it did not honour the original song. While we at it PitBull does not make house music FFS

In between what I’ve mentioned, sub genres were born which you can read about in other blogs and articles. I also will not go into the Birth of Techno and Trance as this is about House music. I will say though that Techno came from that Acid House era with the use of the Roland 303’s

So let’s come back to our Era, The following songs ARE NOT HOUSE MUSIC

THIS IS HOUSE MUSIC (Can you hear the elements from their forefathers? )

In closing, start listening to the music not the  music video, one is visual the other is audio, learn the difference. You could play great House music and watch Mtv with no sound if you really need the visual experience as well.

This Blog post was to show you the difference between House music and what is now called EDM. I other posts I’ll work at converting you to the House Side. EDM Will have a short life and as one artist put it really well”House music will never die” This is because House music evolves and more importantly it touches the soul. Fuck knows what EDM touches, but it’s not the Soul. “For the Love of Jack start opening up your ears”
